Film Screening and Discussion with Writer and Creator Anna Winger

23.01.2020

Germany in the 80s - a time of extreme political tensions that was both colorful and consumer-friendly. Wall deaths and a double NATO decision dominated the headlines, while the brand new Walkman played songs by Nena and other representatives of the Neue Deutsche Welle. Anna Winger's German-language television series takes you back to this complex time. Her three-part series from Germany 83, Germany 86 and the soon to be broadcast Germany 89 is highly praised by critics.

Date and Time: Thursday, January 23, 6:30 p.m. - 8:30 p.m.

Location: Burkardushaus Würzburg, Am Bruderhof 1

In collaboration with the Schreibzentrum | Writing center of the JMU Würzburg

We look forward to the opportunity to enjoy and discuss a sample of the series with the screenwriter and television maker that evening. What are the possibilities, but also the dangers, of treating history in a television format? Are we experiencing a renaissance of "quality television"? If so, why?
