Book Launch for JMU Cultural Studies 2 "Listening in: Perspectives on Sound, Voice, and (Popular) Music Studies"

The second volume in the JMU Cultural Studies series has just been published by Würzburg University Press (WUP).

Edited by Maria Denzlein and Sophie Schönfeld Listening in: Perspective on Sound, Voice, and (Popular) Music Studies features the work of thirteen emerging scholars who analytically ‘listen in’ on practices centred on sound, voice, and/or popular music. Case studies range from early modern composition and cathedral soundscapes to resonance theory, hardcore punk and K-Pop.

The publication of the book will be celebrated on Tuesday, 29 July 2025, starting with a book presentation from 6 to 6:30 pm (CEST) in Übungsraum 15 of the Philosophy Building on JMU’s Hubland Campus. Celebration will continue on-site with an informal get-together with light refreshments in the Department of English and American Studies (Bau 5 of the Philosophy Building).

This volume and the publication series are part of the JMU Cultural Studies initiative.

Volume editor Maria Denzlein is a current student and co-editor Sophie Schönfeld is a recent graduate of the JMU Master of Arts Programme in English-Speaking Cultures.
