Claudia Lillge is a substitute professor at Julius-Maximilians-University Würzburg. She has worked on cultures of work and idleness, European Romanticism, international media and popular culture (mainly photography and film), Postcolonial and Neocolonial Studies, Cultural Animal Studies, and Environmental Humanities. She holds a PhD in German and English Studies from Georg-August-University Göttingen. In 2009, she was awarded the research prize of the University of Paderborn for establishing the research group "Work as Cultural Phenomenon." Her habilitation, "Work: A Literary and Media History of Great Britain," received the BritCult Award of the German Association for British Cultural Studies in 2017. For the past five years, Lillge has been a substitute professor at Julius-Maximilians-University Würzburg, Goethe-University Frankfurt/Main, and Free University Berlin. She is editor of the book series "vita activa" (since 2015) and co-editor of "inter/media" (since 2016) published by Wilhelm Fink/Brill International. As an associated member, she is active in the research networks "Cultural and Literary Animal Studies (CLAS)" and "Studies in Romanticism" at the Goethe-University Frankfurt/Main. Currently, her main areas of research include: "Labor and Imperial Lifestyle", "Media Cultures of Species Protection", and the postcolonial situation of Hong Kong.
