ICAME conference in Vilnius (Lithuania)

At this year’s ICAME conference in Vilnius (Lithuania), Ninja Schulz and Lisa Lehnen co-organised a workshop with Theresa Neumaier (TU Dortmund) entitled “Conventionalisation, specialisation, institutionalisation: Exploring communicative practices and genre developments in letter writing”. Among the contributors was Carina Stick who presented part of her PhD project. The organisers themselves conducted an analysis of requests in 20th century Hong Kong business correspondence and British extortion letters. The workshop taking place on 17 June 2025 provided an excellent platform to discuss letter writing processes through time using corpus linguistic and sociopragmatic methodologies.
