About Prof. Dr. Zeno Ackermann

Zeno Ackermann is Professor of British Cultural Studies at the University of Würzburg.

His research focuses on articulation, the aesthetics of the social and the problem of the voice, on correlations between poetics and ideology, on the reverberations of war, on the position of the novel vis-à-vis audiovisual mass media, and on the afterlives of Shakespeare's works inside as well as outside the theatre.

Among his recent book publications are Precarious Figurations: Shylock on the German Stage, 1920–2010 (De Gruyter, 2019) – a cultural history of the functionalization of Shylock on German stages and in German discourses co-authored with Sabine Schülting – and Terrains of Consciousness: Multilogical Perspectives on Globalization (Würzburg UP, 2021), co-authored with Isabel Karremann, Simi Malhotra and Nishat Zaidi. His essays have been published in The Review of English Studies, Shakespeare, Shakespeare Quarterly, Popular Music and Society and other journals.
