David Schalkwyk - Love and Time in "Romeo and Juliet" and "Troilus and Cressida"
In his guest lecture, David Schalkwyk – author of Speech and Performance in Shakespeare’s Sonnets and Plays(2002), Literature and the Touch of the Real(2004), Shakespeare, Love and Service(2008), Hamlet’s Dreams: The Robben Island Shakespeare (Bloomsbury, 2013), Words in the World: The Bakhtin Circle (2016), and Shakespeare, Love and Language (2019) – will explore the different ways in which Romeo and Juliet and Troilus and Cressida treat love, especially in the light of its necessary vulnerability to the iteration of time and desire.
