WueGlobal Workshop: (Anti) Racism and Education – Transatlantic Perspectives 202220.06.2022
20.06. & 21.06.2022, 09:00-15:30 in person at the Graduate School of Humanities, Hubland Nord
In collaboration with Flagler College, Florida, JMU American Studies and TEFL Methodology are offering students a two-day intensive WueGlobal workshop on (anti)racism and education, which will encourage participants to not just start a personal process of unlearning biases, but also deepen their knowledge of current debates and approaches to tackling racism in education.
A diversity of speakers from Flagler College, JMU, and beyond will provide transatlantic perspectives. Topics to be covered include a theoretical synopsis of racism and its continuities, discussions of "critical race theory," methods of anti-bias (teacher) training, and community activism as a form of anti-racist education.
Active participation in the workshop sessions and the submission of a writing portfolio (ca. 10 pages documenting and responding to the workshop) will be rewarded with 3 ECTS in the "freier Bereich" / FSQ / ASQ. Additionally, participation can be applied towards both the WueGlobal and GSiK certificates.
We imagine the workshop to be of particular interest to “Lehramt” students and students with an American Studies focus. However, we hope that students and colleagues from a wide variety of backgrounds will participate. To join the workshop, we ask for a short statement of interest (max. 1 page) to be sent by June 10 to: email@example.com
